Rekindling the AFS Flame Five Decades Later
It took nearly five decades to reunite the members of
the first AFS exchange to Japan, but neither time nor

Dispel any notions you might have of Finland being a
cold, snowy, northern country; it is anything but!
Alive with a vibrant culture, outdoor activities,
lush landscapes, and the "midnattssol" or midnight
sun, Finland draws the world’s attention for many
reasons.
AFS offers summer, semester & year programs in
Finland.

Fundraising: Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket!
One approach to fundraising is to try out several of
your ideas throughout the year. A student wanting
to travel to
Latvia with AFS came
up with this list of things she could do to
raise money over the next 6 months:
- Babysit
- Ask for money from family and friends
- Sign up for scholarships
- Mow lawns in the summer
- Have a garage sale and maybe a silent
auction
- Do household chores for people in the
community
Plan your fundraising calendar with the seasons and
make your goals reasonable enough so that you can
accomplish them!
