    Focus on Argentina
Thanks Brooke, for submitting this photo of you in Argentina!

Mention Argentina and people think of solitary gauchos, sultry tango dancers, or Buenos Aires to the nation’s passion for soccer. Yet you’ll find Argentina has a vigorous identity of its own, fostering a sophisticated citizenry that places high values on culture, tradition, and hospitality. Read More...

    International Friendship Day

August 6 was International Friendship Day. As you probably know, AFS communities are excellent places to make international friends. Friendship helps to bring peace and positivity to the globe—a great reason to celebrate the whole month! Consider joining an AFS Club or meeting the local exchange students at your school.

In June, AFS Exchange Students said good-bye to their friends from many countries before getting on the plane home.

Pictured here: One giant hug good-bye near the airport at AFS' Departure Day, Los Angeles.

    Fundraising: Create Your Own Newsletter

Sell subscriptions to your personal newsletter sent from abroad!

To see an example of how an AFS student put her newsletter together, take a look at Hannah's newsletter sent from the Czech Republic to her subscribers. By the way, she sent the text and photos to her father in the U.S., who created the actual (very professional looking) newsletter!

Another AFSer named Candace said this:
"I first sent out a letter to obtain newsletter subscriptions. I basically wrote that I was going abroad with AFS and that I was raising money by selling subscriptions to my monthly newsletter (which I promised to send while abroad). I mailed it to everyone I knew, like doctors, important people in the community, and adult friends of the family. I also sent the letter to anyone in the phone book that looked important, like law offices, car dealerships, etc. I sold subscriptions for $100."

It may be a good idea to break your potential subscribers into a few different groups, sending a custom letter to each group, based on your relationship with them, or the amount of money you are asking from each group.

To learn more about these and other easy and fun ways to raise money for your AFS Exchange, attend one of our group telephone calls. Call Katie at (800) AFS-INFO, ext. 1508.
