11/14/2007 - Community Ed. Receives International Flair

The Wabasso Standard

The District 640 Community Education is always seeking new classes and experiences to offer citizens of all ages in our area communities. In the past weeks Simone Elisa Faleiro, our visiting teacher of AFS Program, from Brazil, has taught several classes. One of them being Jewelry Making for youth and adults at the Wabasso Public School.

Simone, who is an accomplished jewelry maker, showed the students how to make a variety of beaded jewelry such as earring, bracelets and necklaces. Everyone had a wonderful time and they were able to take home some colorful new items for their jewelry collections or to give as gifts.

Simone is an exchange teacher who won a scholarship from the Otto Bremer Foundation in Brazil enabling her to live in Wabasso and teach at the school. She will be here only until January.

If you would like to take in one of Simone’s Jewelry Making classes, her next class will be held on Monday, December 10 at 6 p.m. at the Wabasso Public School. The cost is $12 for the class instruction, which includes one piece of jewelry, or $6 for use of tools and workspace and you bring your own beads. Additional beads and jewelry may be made and purchased at the class. This class is open to older youth and adults.

To ensure adequate supplies, registration ends December 4. Call the Community Ed office at 508-342-7403 for further questions or to register.
