AFS Awards for Excellence
Scholarships to Students Who Will Make a World of Difference
Awards for Excellence is AFS-USA’s premier merit-based scholarship program. More than $200,000 in full and partial scholarships will be awarded to students who best exhibit academic excellence (minimum 3.5 GPA on 4.0 scale or equivalent), leadership, and community service. The judging panel will be especially interested in applicants who not only meet the scholarship criteria, but best exhibit, through their activities, actions, or essays, what it means to be an ambassador. The next scholarships to be awarded can be applied toward any AFS program departing in the summer or fall of 2007 or winter of 2008.
Students must be nominated by a high school teacher, principal, guidance counselor, or National Honor Society Advisor to be eligible. Nominations must be received by December 5, 2006.
In total, we will award 120 scholarships for programs that take place in the summer or fall of 2007 or winter of 2008. Ten full-tuition scholarships will be awarded. The remaining scholarships will be either $2500 or $1000. This scholarship program is competitive. Last year AFS received over 1,400 nominations for the 120 scholarships.

After discussing this opportunity with your outstanding student(s), print, complete, and submit this simple nomination form. Schools with 1,000 or fewer students are invited to nominate up to five students; schools with over 1,000 students may nominate up to 10.
