AFS-USA was recently awarded a grant through the Fulbright Commission to bring secondary school administrators from Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela to the United States for a three-week program, which will take place in Boise, Idaho from October 13-31, 2007. Through curriculum development, the Global LEAP Program will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and address the needs of their students, schools and communities within their respective countries.
Host school and host family placements are being facilitated by the Northwest Central Area Team, under the leadership of Hanna Lee Betz. The content of this program is being organized, in conjunction with AFS-USA by Dr. Dan Prinzing and the Idaho Human Rights Education Center.
The U.S. portion of the program will conclude with an orientation in Washington DC where participants will have the opportunity to meet with Embassy and State Department Officials as well as visit with Idaho Congressional Representatives. Follow-on activities will take place in participant’s home countries and will focus on utilizing the relationships established while in the US between Bolivia, Ecuador, the United States and Venezuela.
AFS-USA is proud to be collaborating with AFS Bolivia, AFS Ecuador, AFS Venezuela, the Idaho Human Rights Education Center, and the Center for Civic Education on this program!
