AFS Visiting Teacher Program
Since 1972, AFS-USA has made it possible for international educators from other countries to live, work, teach and learn in the United States for either a semester or a year at a time. The AFS Visiting Teacher Program is for people who work in the field of education—outstanding international teachers who come to work with K-12 schools in the United States -at no charge to the host school. Through the AFS Visiting Teacher Program, participants expand their knowledge of other cultures and educational systems and exchange teaching methods all while acquiring first hand knowledge of what it’s like to live in another country.
In addition to their own professional development, Visiting Teachers who travel to the United States are interested in learning about American lifestyles, culture, and family life, and sharing in their own customs and traditions.
Becoming part of a family affords them the opportunity to experience “real American life.” In turn, families who host adults gain a mature and informed perspective on another country, while forging friendships and memories that can last a lifetime.
