AFS-USA Intercultural Programs, Inc. (“AFS”) is committed to upholding the confidentiality and security of your personal information. The information below explains what we do with the data we collect from you and applies to information submitted anywhere on this site.
The Information We Collect
AFS collects information, including but not limited to user names and email addresses, from our users at several different points on our website, in particular in Find an AFSer, Feedback Forum, the AFS Mail Lists, Getting Started, and Tell A Friend. All provisions of information by users are voluntary.
AFS does not collect personally identifiable information about individuals except when specifically and knowingly provided by such individuals. Furthermore the disclosure of such information as part of the Find an AFSer, Feedback Forums, and AFS Mail List makes apparent the disclosure of such contact information.
AFS Find an AFSer allows you to post your name, email address, and other comments permitting other friends and families to contact you. You may at your own discretion delete, update, or correct this information at any time by going into your entry and logging on with your User ID (your email address) and with the password you selected.
AFS does not utilize cookies.
How the Information is Used
We sometimes use non-personally identifiable information that we collect to improve the design and content of our site, to enable us to personalize your Internet experience, analyze trends, gather broad demographic information, administer the site, and for AFS purposes that may include, but not limited to, for AFS Partners to contact the AFS Returnees from their countries.
AFS will not sell, rent, share, trade, or give away any personally identifiable information to any third parties outside our partner organizations and those working directly with them in connection with AFS activities. However, when you voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information (such as your first and last name, email address, etc.) in Find an AFSer or the AFS USA Mail Lists, that information can be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters. AFS is not responsible for who may contact you by using this information. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT PROVIDE YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER AND HOME ADDRESS USING Find An AFSer.
Otherwise, we will only disclose information we maintain when required to do so by law; for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena. We also may disclose such information in response to a law enforcement request.
Find an AFSer
Find an AFSer is intended to help members of the AFS family find each other. We ask that you use good judgment and discretion when sending messages to other members of the list. Please do not use information found here for the purpose of commercial promotion of any kind. AFS does not bear any responsibility for any actions or policies of third parties.
Registering in Find an AFSer: All registrations are voluntary. The only individuals listed in Find an AFSer are those who have registered themselves here. AFS does not add individuals to the database. Therefore if you do not find your AFS friend in Find a Friend it is because s/he have not registered themselves. Log on ID: Your e-mail address will be your log-on identification name.
Security
Personal information collected by AFS and our websites is stored in secure operating environments. At present, we centralize some records of personal information in the United States of America and in Thailand. Those databases have a restrictive access and can only be accessed by AFS and AFS Partner organizations’ employees, consultants, or volunteers all of whom will use the information exclusively for the management of the AFS program operations. Therefore, we may perform some of our data processing of your personal information outside your country of residence, for example in the United States of America or in Thailand. To do this, we may transfer your personal information to other countries including the United States of America and Thailand. AFS will protect your personal information no matter where we process it or store it, following this privacy statement. By submitting your personal data to AFS, you hereby consent to this transfer of your personal information.
If consented to by the participant and parent(s)/legal guardian(s), AFS may use, for any lawful purpose, excerpts from interviews and letters, photographs, video and audio recordings and any other still or moving images of the participant taken during his or her program and to use his or her name in conjunction therewith.
